The Taj Garden Retreat hotel is beautifully located at the top of a hill overlooking the city of Madurai. It has very attractive gardens and outside seating with superb views. Chicken malai tikka was as tender as one would hope (14/20) while a dosa was merely pleasant (11/20). Bhindi was OK but not as dry as would be ideal, having a little greasiness (11/20). Sag aloo was also decent enough, with good spinach flavour (11/20). Best were the breads: excellent romali roti (14/20) and garlic naan (13/20).
