High Road Brasserie is on the ground floor of High Road House, which has a member’s bar and restaurant upstairs as well as rooms for members to stay overnight. The brasserie has a large street terrace, partly covered and with heaters, so this outdoor area is popular in all but the grimmest weather. It is located in one of the most desirable spots in Chiswick, just at the junction of the High Road and Turnham Green Terrace, which attracts plenty of footfall. Open all day, this restaurant has been busy ever since it opened in 2006.

A broad bean dip with taro crisps was pleasant, though the mint in the dip rather overwhelmed the flavour of the beans (12/20). Haddock souffle was very good indeed, with light texture and plenty of flavour (easily 14/20). “Chicken Milanese” was really a kind of schnitzel, served with a salad of rocket and tomatoes. It was very generous in size, the batter was crisp and the salad went well with the main element, though the overall effect was a touch dry (12/20). Traditional fish and chips were fine too (12/20). Service was fine, with one particularly switched-on Polish waiter and another less impressive one. The bill came to £80 a head, but that was with a bottle of excellent Ruinart champagne between two. High Road Brasserie is very successful at what it does, taking full advantage of its excellent location, offering a mostly, simple, appealing menu that is capably cooked.
